Since 2009, Canon Australia has reduced our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 13%¹. We also run a rigorous recycling program. In 2021, 573,428 ink and toner cartridges (equivalent to 84 tonnes) were recycled in Australia resulting in zero waste being sent to landfill. From this, 7.33 tonnes of toner powder was recycled into TonerPlas, an innovative product that is used to improve the durability of Australian roads².
We have also recycled 1,991 tonnes of e-waste in Australia, preventing 2,921 tonnes CO₂e from entering the atmosphere³. 93% of that e-waste is re-used in the manufacture of new Canon products, thereby further reducing the environmental impact of our business.
Today, Canon is replacing polystyrene with moulded fibre pulp packaging⁴, and we’re scaling our impact through innovative industry partnerships that champion sustainability.
In short, Canon is committed to sustainability and is an active member of a range of environmental programs and initiatives, including the Australian Packaging Covenant⁵, B-Cycle Battery Recycling Initiative, Cartridges for Planet Ark Program⁶, the Sustainability Advantage Pilot Program⁷, Rainforest Rescue and TechCollect⁸.
