Compact Cameras

A compact camera, often referred to as a point-and-shoot camera, is a small, lightweight, and portable digital camera designed for ease of use and convenience. Compact cameras are characterised by their simple operation, automatic settings, and a fixed lens.

Compact cameras are designed to capture photo and video in a simplified and user-friendly manner, making it accessible to users of all skill levels. It automates many processes to allow users to point and shoot without the need for in-depth technical knowledge. It is generally straightforward using the following basic steps: locate power button and turn on, set the mode dial from a selection of shooting modes, frame the shot using the LCD screen, use the zoom lever or control to adjust the zoom level, half-press the shutter button to let the camera focus on your subject. Once the focus is locked, press the shutter button fully to take the shot.

Compact cameras have larger image sensors which offer better image quality and improved low-light performance. Many compact cameras come with built-in optical zoom allowing you to get closer to distant subjects without sacrificing image quality, compared to digital zoom which is more common in smartphones. Being purpose-built for photography, digital cameras have better ergonomics, longer battery life and dedicated memory card slots, which is especially advantageous when shooting for extended periods.
