The 1st West Epping Scout Group applied for a Canon Environmental Grant to help them record the impact of recent environmental issues on the bush reserves and walking trails that their scouts have been enjoying for the past sixty years. Issues include weeds, the encroachment of urban development, over-visitation, illegal dumping and poor bushcraft.
As part of their environmental studies, the Scout Group aims to record and report human impact and weed infestation on tracks and local bushland and to produce a weed identification guide for scouts and cubs to use in their bushcare and landcare activities.
To assist the 1st West Epping Scout Group in achieving these goals, Canon Australia has supplied: PowerShot A570IS digital camera and accessories PowerShot S5 IS digital camera and accessories EOS 400D Twin Lens Kit and accessories IX4000 printer and consumables
The cameras provided by Canon will be used to photograph the environmental problems that the scouts encounter on their hikes, such as wash-aways of tracks and poor waste disposal practices. The 1st West Epping Scout Group also plans to produce training materials for scouts and other frequent bush users to illustrate the correct bushcraft techniques.
