The National Parks Association of NSW seeks to protect and conserve the complete range and diversity of species, natural habitats, features and landscapes of New South Wales.
The Association applied for a Canon Environmental Grant to assist with its project, 'HarbourKeepers', which offers practical ways for the community to protect, restore and explore Sydney Harbour's natural environment. Since 2004, teams of volunteer 'HarbourKeepers' have joined over 100 environmental activities stretching from Sydney Harbour's seafloor to its beaches, islands and foreshores. These include fish surveys, underwater and foreshore clean ups, bush regeneration, aquatic weed removal, children's educational workshops and volunteer training days.
Through the 'HarbourKeepers' project, the National Parks Association of NSW aims to: Increase public awareness of environmental issues facing Sydney Harbour Showcase the contribution of 'HarbourKeepers' volunteers in protecting, restoring and exploring Sydney Harbour Attract new volunteers and stakeholders Increase the understanding environmental managers have of Sydney Harbour so that they can effectively manage its natural environment
Canon Australia's Environmental Grant will assist by providing the following equipment: 33 PowerShot A570IS digital cameras and accessories, including lenses, batteries and waterproof casing PIXMA MP530 printer and consumables
The equipment provided as part of the Canon Australia Environmental Grant will enable the National Parks Association of NSW to use visual images to train volunteers and showcase their work and environmental issues to environmental managers and the public.
