Japan- Canon placed first in a ranking of the top 100 companies in Japan in terms of corporate social responsibility (CSR) conducted by Nikkei Business, Japan's leading weekly business magazine.
Appearing in the July 26 issue of the magazine, the "CSR Best 100 Company Ranking" rated companies in three areas: CSR activities and reporting, external evaluation, and financial performance. Winning top honors overall, Canon was rated highly across the board, ranking 22nd for extent of activities, 16th for depth of reporting, 2nd and 6th for evaluations by institutional investors and consumers, respectively, and 8th for business results and financial condition.
Rounding out the top five companies in the ranking were Toyota Motor in second place, followed in order by personal and household products manufacturer Kao, Nissan Motor, and retailer Ito Yokado.
